Akvaplan-niva and partner DeepOcean speaks at prestigious Ocean Decade event

Alex Rumson & Nadia Aarab (DeepOcean) and Lionel Camus (Akvaplan-niva) were selected to give a talk at the 2024 Ocean Decade conference that took place in Barcelona April 10-12th. Their presentation illustrated how to liberate ocean datasets collected by robots engaged in commercial subsea work scopes, and feed this into the Kongsberg Blue Insight data platform and ocean models used by a wide variety of stakeholders, enabling better monitoring and modelling of the global oceans.

The presentation also showed how science and industry can collaborate to better map and model subsea areas and ecosystems. This work can reveal opportunities for other organisations to form similar collaborations, and the Akvaplan-niva and Deep Ocean team is keen to use the opportunity to engage with future partners and interested parties.

Lionel Camus from Akvaplan-niva states:

- "we were very happy for this opportunity to present our work as a means to raise awareness of the technologies and methods that we are using, and how this can contribute to improved ocean and ecosystem monitoring and modelling, generating a knowledge base for future restoration and preservation efforts. The novel means of sourcing data which we showcased, can raise awareness of a wealth of untapped opportunities extending beyond the projects we are involved in"
