EUROPAM public outreach activity

11 October 2023 news

This fall Biodiversa+ project "EUROPAM" arranged an public outreach event in Tromsø Norway. The event was part of the Research Council of Norway "Research Days".

The full title of the EUROPAM project is "European Spatial-Temporal Large-Scale Sea Noise Management & Passive Acoustic Monitoring of Marine Megafauna". The project aim to increase the knowledge of anthropogenic impacts on marine megafauna through passive acoustic monitoring, on a wide scale that allows comparison between locations and sources of disturbances, and between population segments of e.g. sperm whales.

At the outreach event project participant Katie Dunning had prepared a sound quiz for the public for guessing different types of sea mammals and antropogenic sounds.

The quiz was very engaging and attentative children could guess many of the different sounds (Photo: Akvaplan-niva).

During the event the children also enjoyed coloring and drawing different sea mammals.
