Akvaplan-niva's researchers are taking part in the 7th International Marine Debris Conference (7IMDC) with oral and poster presentations and co-chairing a technical session.

7IMDC https://www.7imdc.org/ will take place from the 18th to 23rd September 2022 in Busan, Republic of Korea and will be held in hybrid format combining in-person and online participation. The conference programme accounts over 100 technical sessions divided in 9 thematic tracks. Akvaplan-niva is presenting nine talks and posters at six technical sessions within Research, Regulations and Policy, and International Collaboration topics.

On Wednesday, the 21st of September, Peygham Ghaffari will give a talk 'Cleaning riverine plastic from a transboundary inflow to the Caspian – CRIPTIC' presenting a joint Norway-Azerbaijan project financed by the Norwegian Retailers Environmental Fund (HMF) at the session 'Marine debris and microplastics: challenges and solutions for developing countries.

On Thursday, the 22nd Claudia Halsband will co-chair a technical session 'Car tire particles as a major contributor to global microplastic pollution'. The same day, at the session 'Interdisciplinary and multi-dimensional science for solutions' Alexei Bambulyak will present 'Multi-disciplinary approach for mapping and studying marine litter in the Arctic seas – MALINOR, ArcToMal and DIMARC projects' on three projects led by Akvaplan-niva (Lionel Camus), financed by the Research Council of Norway (NFR), the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment (KLD), and the Norwegian Retailers Environmental Fund (HMF).

Akvaplan-niva researchers are co-authors in speeches that will be given by our partners: 'Deposition, residence time and lateral movements of beach litter in Lofoten, Norway' by SALT, 'Arctic cooperation on marine plastic litter: with or without Russia?' by NORCE, and 'Ingestion of Crumb Rubber and Uptake of Associated Contaminants in Marine Organisms' by NILU.

Eli Børve and Peygham Ghaffari will also present our research on marine litter at the poster session on Tuesday, the 20th of September (four posters with Akvaplan-niva participation will be displayed).
