Do you want to play a key role in shaping the future of Arctic science and policy? Arctic Frontiers is seeking a Senior Adviser who thrives at the crossroads of research, international collaboration and geopolitics.

We are searching for a new colleague to take over the responsibility for the Arctic Frontiers Science portfolio. We are in the lookout for a team member with scientific experience within academia or knowledge of the research environment. An ideal candidate has demonstrated project leadership skills, operative experience and ability to deliver in a hectic work environment.

This position is a part of the cross-sectoral and international team working at Arctic Frontiers. You are expected to work closely with the rest of the Arctic Frontiers team as well as our partners who represent scientific institutions, policy, and businesses.

We are looking for an effective and flexible team member who is eager to learn constantly. A successful candidate has an international mindset and experience from the science-policy interface. This position offers a unique insight into international Arctic cooperation in an increasingly geopolitical landscape. It provides an opportunity to work with Arctic Frontiers’ partner network, representing leading expertise in the field, and an opportunity to advance Arctic collaboration across the different sectors and disciplines both nationally and internationally. In addition, you will gain extensive experience from event planning and execution.

Role and responsibilities

The senior adviser develops, plans and coordinates Arctic Frontiers' work within science including preparations for the annual Arctic Frontiers conference as well as our year-around activities. The senior adviser's work is characterized by cross-disciplinarity and cross-sector collaboration. The senior adviser works in close collaboration with the Arctic Frontiers' strategic science committees, our partner network, and external stakeholders.

The senior adviser will also play a key role as project leader with responsibility for several projects of varying themes in the organization's project portfolio. This work encompasses project acquisition, application, execution, and reporting, often in collaboration with multiple stakeholders.

This position includes an active role in implementation and development of Arctic Frontiers’ operations and outreach: from small meetings and events to digital meetings, events abroad, as well as the annual conference. The senior adviser will also be responsible for maintaining and following up collaboration with the organization's partners.

  • Develop, coordinate and execute the work within Arctic Frontiers' Science portfolio including annual Arctic Frontiers Science conference program.
  • Project leadership: acquisition, execution, reporting.
  • Facilitate collaboration between Arctic Frontiers and its partners including partner recruitment.
  • Outreach, meetings, networking including events in Norway and abroad.

Due to diversity of tasks within the organization, the senior adviser will also be asked to assist with other tasks when needed.

Qualifications

  • A PhD, preferably in natural or social sciences. Alternatively, demonstrated scientific experience within academia or substantial knowledge of the research environment may be considered in lieu of a PhD.
  • Excellent language skills in English
  • Work-level use of Norwegian is an advantage
  • Demonstrated experience from project management and project leadership
  • Experience in scientific projects and cross-sectoral collaboration
  • Knowledge about international Arctic research landscape (international organizations, funding agencies, programs, initiatives)
  • Knowledge about Arctic issues (environmental changes, socio-economic development, regional trends) is an advantage
  • Familiarity of the science-policy interface
