Full title: Polar Ocean Mitigation Potential

Project lead: Århus University (Mikael Sejr)

Partners: Århus University, Akvaplan-niva, Alfred-Wegener-Institut/Helmholtz Centre for Marine and Polar Research, University of Southern Denmark, Greenland Institute for Natural Resources, Sorbonne University, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, NINA, CNRS (National Centre for Scientific Research, France), St. Andrews University, UK Research and Innovation (British Antarctic Survey), Scitation Science Communications, University Laval, University of Manitoba, University of Québec at Rimouski

Funding: EU: Horizon Europa

Primary objective: To advance the science on climate change impacts on polar ecosystem carbon sinks and biodiversity, with a focus on the capacity of ecosystems to mitigate increasing atmospheric CO2 concentrations

Secondary objectives: Develop innovative CO2 mitigation assessment tools; Integrate ecosystem models with in situ and remote sensing data; inform and shape effective environmental policies; contribute significantly to national and international climate strategies
